Who We Are, Beyond the Shawls
Yemeni Threads exists because a centuries-old craft deserved to be seen by the rest of the world — not as a curiosity, but as a livelihood worth protecting. Every piece we sell is handmade by artisans in Mukalla who have kept this tradition alive through years most people never hear about. Operating here has never been easy — that's been true since the day we started, not just this week.
This page is where we tell you the truth about what that actually looks like — the good, and the hard parts too.
Current Update — July 2026
Our team is safe. The situation is serious.
Yemen has always been a hard place to build something like this. But over the past two weeks specifically, conflict in the region has escalated sharply, and shipping out of Yemen through Oman has been delayed as a direct result. Our team on the ground has been directly affected. They are safe, and we are in close, daily contact with them — but "safe" doesn't mean unaffected.
Here's what that means in practice:
- Shipping has been delayed for two weeks as of today. We're working daily on alternate routing and will update this page as the situation develops.
- We're absorbing added cost rather than cutting corners — in re-routing, in holding inventory, in doing this responsibly instead of the cheapest way.
- Every order placed with us still goes toward fair, direct payment to the artisans doing this work, under real pressure right now.
We'll keep this section updated as things change. No spin, no silence.

How Purchases Actually Work
We know "supports artisans" is a phrase a lot of brands use loosely. Here's what it means for us, specifically:
- Our artisans, led by Aydarus and coordinated on the ground by Saqqaf and Hashim Saqqaf, can custom-make any shawl to order, with capacity for up to 200 pieces a month.
- Artisans are paid upfront — before the piece ever ships, before it's sold to you.
- From there, a portion of that income is redirected back into their communities in Mukalla and Tarim — supporting orphans and elderly residents locally. This isn't a marketing add-on; it's how the artisan circle has chosen to use the income this work generates.
A Running Log, Not a One-Time Alert
Rather than post an "urgent" banner that goes stale, we're keeping this page current as things evolve — good news and hard news both.
July 14, 2026 — The World Cup collection shipment has been delayed by two weeks due to the escalating situation in Yemen. We're actively working to safely navigate the route and get shipments moving again. We'll update this as soon as there's real movement.
If You Want to Help
We're not going to ask you to buy something as an act of charity — that's not what this brand is. If you were already planning to order, know where that money goes. If you want to simply follow what's happening, this page will stay updated.
